I’m Jackie Deane-Couture, raised in Blenheim, live in Chatham, graduate of Graphic Arts, former certified Human Resource Leader and now retired living the dream!
During a vacation in Toulouse, France in 1999, I was captivated by the works of several ceramic artists of this small community and knew then, that I needed to learn this craft.
I have been fortunate to have been taught by several ceramic artists in and around our community to learn this century old craft and build my skill and clay knowledge. Twenty-some-odd years later, I continue to learn and experiment with the plethora of materials that make surface design both interesting and beautiful.
As a small batch studio potter, I make functional pottery made of durable stoneware that has been crafted using hand built or wheel thrown processes. Most pieces are one-of-a-kind items decorated to be a piece of art when not in use.
My logo illustrates my love of colour and texture, as depicted through my abstract painting and my artistic hand written signature that adds a personal touch to each of my creations.
I have also been teaching hand building classes through the Thames Art Gallery since 2022. Paying my knowledge forward and watching others become makers of clay is very rewarding.
